Identity and ethnicity aren't topics discussed amongst members of some multicultural families. During hair maintenance, however, these topics are commonly brought up. Unfortunately, these interactions are not always positive. This has a lot to do with some parents' struggle with understanding and managing their children's unfamiliar hair textures.

Chickadee is a brand of hair products formulated especially for multicultural kids. The packaging and materials will be designed with play and talk in mind which will engage children and parents in short, spontaneous, and positive conversations about identity, ethnicity, and community. To promote the brand, there will be a hair styling demonstration and a family photography session. Chickadee is a graphic design thesis project that will foster productive conversations and beautiful hair.
